Do you like to speed on ice? Short track speed skating is like a track meet on ice and is becoming a very popular winter Olympic sport! The CWSSC is one of seven speed skating clubs in Wisconsin and this season we begin our 16th fun-filled year. CWSSC coaches have all attended various U.S. Speed Skating Coaching Clinics and focus on teaching skills and technique used in the sport of Speed Skating. The club is open to all skaters of any age and ability with recreational or competitive interests. Our goal is to provide a fun, positive and supportive atmosphere in which a skater can pursue those goals.
Unique to the speed skating club is the opportunity for non-skaters, families and individuals to be involved. No one has to be a bench sitter. Opportunities for everyone to be involved exist at many levels from coaching, general club operation, meet organization, and officiating at meets.
The season begins in September and ends in mid-March. Practice is held on Sunday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00-8:00 pm. CWSSC hosts several U.S. Speed Skating sanctioned meets per season and has been awarded bids to run additional national level meets as well. For the second consecutive year we will be hosting US Speed Skating Nationals and American Cup Final in March 2011. Club skaters have opportunities to compete at meets at the local level, state level and national level. Skaters compete in races by age/gender classification (Tiny Tot >>Master Divisions) and ability levels. You can be a novice or an advanced skater. No one is excluded from the fun!
CWSSC invites you to join them on the ice this season! Learn to SPEED ON ICE introductory lessons (skating experience not required) will be held on Sundays in September & October. Club speed skates are available to use for the lessons. Registration for introductory lessons is required, see "Learn To Skate" Tab on our web page for additional details and registration form.
Club membership registration begins in September, but new members are welcome anytime throughout the year!
